The Lewisville Fire Department released
a new logo at the
Annual Awards Banquet held on December
10, 2010. The new logo
was introduced to commemorate the
opening of Lewisville's second fire
station on January 3rd, 2011 and the
department's 60th anniversary.
The following describes the
significance of the parts of the new logo.
- The red
line honors the firefighters of Lewisville (past, present and future)
who have or
will shed blood, sweat and tears to keep our community safe.
The black
represents the fire department personnel that have passed on. May we honor
them and carry on the tradition of service above self.
- The roller
mill symbolizes the Lewisville community. The mill has been a fixture in our
community since 1910. People well into Virginia bought products such as
flour and corn meal from the roller mill. Paul M. Jennings became Fire Chief
in 1961 and served as chief until 1974. Chief Jennings was part owner of the
Lewisville Roller Mill which his father bought in 1925. All the buildings
around the mill were built by the Jennings family to help bring business to
Lewisville. He was chief when the department purchased it first new fire
truck, a 1961 Ford Howe Fire Apparatus. He was also chief when the
department purchased its first ladder truck in 1971, a 50' Ford Tele Squrt –
the first Tele Squrt in the state.
- Thirteen is
on the left of the patch to represent Station 13 covering the western area
of our community. Eleven is on the right of the patch to represent Station
11 covering the eastern area of our community.
- In 2011 we
will celebrate 60 years of service to the Lewisville community. Since 1951
the fire department has led the way in fire protection for its community and
beyond. The department was the first in the county to require training for
its personnel (1950’s), the first department in the county with two trucks
(pumper and tanker), first volunteer department with a ladder truck in the
State and the first department in the county to organize a business and home
fire inspection program. The department was featured in a 1950’s magazine
article on how a small community can develop an effective rural fire
department. May we always strive to be professional leaders in fire and life
safety services for our community.
